SNAP DOG | CEL ANIMATION

Snap Dog is about capturing dramatic narrative in everyday reality, especially in the smartphone-addicted world we are now experiencing. My animation is to draw out the observations and the phenomenon of the rising trend of selfie, particularly the use of the dog filter in SnapChat. The aim is to visualise commentaries I see around me and capturing it to establish a connection with the viewer. The goal of the animation is not to criticise the act of taking selfies but a narrative in everyday reality, that viewers can relate or react to, or simply have a laugh.

CONCEPT

Everyday, from streets to coffee shops, we see people burying their heads in smartphones. They are busy, either texting, scrolling for news feeds or watching videos online. Technology has sure helped and make our lives so much easier, that undeniably make us addictive. The use of social networking platforms like Facebook or Snapchat has became one of our major form of social interaction. In which they have then given rise to a global phenomenon named ”Selfies”. It is the self-portrait of the digital age. The appeal of selfies comes from how easily they are to create and share, especially with the technology advance we had nowadays of front facing smartphone camera.

"THE PUPPY FACE" FILTER

The improvement in design and variety of mobile photo applications such as Instagram and Snapchat has also led to resurgence of selfies in recent years. One of the most popular selfie trend in 2016, is “the puppy” face tracking filter, featuring users to have a dog’s nose, ears and tongue over their faces. Particularly teenage girls has become obsessed with the filter because it makes them look cute and hides imperfections on their faces. We never realised how absurd it is until we put ourselves in dog's shoes and reverse our roles.
