ONCE UPON A CRIME | EDITORIAL DESIGN
Once upon a crime is a zine publication inspired by FBI Offender Profiling, about "Gender Transgression in Male Villains of Disney animated movies". The study is presented in three parts, the evidence (design journal), the investigation (research paper) and the final offender profiling file ( the zine publication).


VILLAINS X CRIMINALS
In order to lift the Disney characters away from its creditability of children fiction, a criminal role were cast on them, providing a modern twist on their villainy identity. The dissertation will then act a documentation of investigation on the two villains. Their villain acts are their crime.The research topic revolves around “gender transgression”, a common characteristic found in the Disney villain characters. It does not focus on their criminal act, but their common characteristics in terns of personality, behaviour, appearance, which is similar to offender profiling, an investigation tool used by the modern police force in narrowing down suspects. The overall style of the final output will be highly referenced with official police documents, the offender profiling. For it studies on the offender’s psychological and behavioural characteristics rather than the offences itself.

FLUORESCENT ORANGE
Orange help brings villains and criminals together for it is the colour of prison uniforms. It demonstrates villains’ identity as modern criminals. A fluorescent orange paper stock were chosen in making the chapter divider and case for the final outcome. Besides pure aesthetics reason, the brightness of the orange were the initial idea of why prisons adopt this colour as prison uniform for easy identification and prevent prisoner escape. The neon glow of the orange not only creates a beautiful contrast with the other papers, it also help creates a sense of danger, and warning for its eye catching ability. Moreover, the bold and loud neon orange matches perfectly with the proud and cocky personality of the villains, showcasing a strong and powerful statement to the others.
